Barnstable Art Classes

Classes start the week of July 7th

Art Classes
with Nancy Pettibone

Art Club

Projects are designed to highlight the creative process of making art, exploring a wealth of non-toxic materials such as various paints, glue, clays and drawing materials.

Instructor is a certified preschool lead teacher as well as an art teacher and artist. Come join the club in this fun and friendly class for preschoolers.

Ages 3-4 -Tuesdays - 10:00 -10:45 $60 Six weeks.

Family Art

An art class for young children with their moms, dads, grandparents or other caregivers. This class is a gentle, supportive way to introduce the very young to art using child-friendly materials. Caregivers remain at child’s side throughout class.

Promote fine motor skill development and creativity in a unique bonding experience. Thirty-minute class, limited to 6 parent/child sets.

Tuesdays 11:30-12:00 Six weeks.$60 per adult/child set; additional child (up to age 5) $15

A Look at Modern Artists

Learn more about some of influential and pioneering artists of the last century – including Picasso, Dali, Pollock, Warhol and others - then create your own artwork based on what we’ve discovered. All drawing, painting and mixed media materials are provided in a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere.

Ages 12 and up -Tuesdays 2:00-4:00 $125 Six weeks.

 

Creative Painting Techniques

Make beautiful abstract art this summer while investigating a rich assortment of painting materials, tools and techniques. In this class, the accent will be on the creative and the experimental – all you need to bring is your artistic energy and curiosity. (And please wear old clothes!)

Ages 5-8 -Wednesdays 1:00-2:30 $95 Six weeks. Five year olds must have completed Kindergarten.

Ages 9-12 -Wednesdays 10:00-12:00 $125 Six weeks.

Free Drawing!

Each class will start with a brief discussion and exercises in the fundamentals of drawing. Students are then free to use the rest of class time to incorporate these lessons into individual drawings of their own. Topics each week will be as follows: line, shape, composition, color, perspective and shading.

Ages 8-10 -Wednesdays 3:00-4:00 $65 Six weeks

Summer by the Sea: Art

Celebrate your vacation on the Cape! In this high-energy class we’ll explore some of the activities and resources that make the Cape such a special place to be, especially in the summer. Drawing, painting, collage and crafts all included.

Ages 5-7 -Thursdays 1:00-2:30 $95 Six weeks. (Five year olds must have completed Kindergarten.)

Ages 8-10 -Thursdays 10:00-12:00 $125 Six weeks

COLLAGE CREATIONS

Glue to your heart’s content with a huge assortment of papers & collage materials.

Sketch a Story

Tell your own tales through your own pictures. We will use markers, oil pastels and watercolors to illustrate your ideas. No writing skills required.

For ages 5-7 – pre-K five year olds welcome!

Photography
with Doug Long

Get more out of your digital camera with one of the Cape’s most popular photographers. Learn the basics of composition, using light, how to pose family members or even the family dog!

We’ll use the Cape’s natural beauty to focus on outdoor nature photography, outdoor portraits and action photography.

Drawing meets self-expression in this class designed to help young artists find their artistic vision. Expression encouraged through the use of both traditional and nontraditional materials.

Paper Quilts - New!

Express the world you in live in through a paper quilt. Class incorporates words, nature, drawing and painting in a paper quilt. Teens are encouraged to explore their thoughts and feelings in each work.

with Beverley Edwards

Join this remarkable class—given by Beverley Edwards, Founder of the Monotype Guild of New England—to see why it is a 25-year-old tradition.

Advanced Oil Painting
with Lori Feeney

conservatorystudentsOne of the Cape’s top artists and teachers, Loretta Feeney, helps you in approaching your painting for a successful start and finish. This class will cover a variety of techniques on beginning your oil paintings as well as how to choose the correct approach to painting.

<img src="images/conservatory3-1.jpgRequirements: Students are required to bring several references of subjects they are excited to begin. Come to class prepared to paint! If you have a portable easel, you are encouraged to bring it. Each class will include a teacher demonstration or two, and will end with a critique.
