Class Descriptions

Creative Movement - ages 3-4, 45 min.

*With Nicola Ferraro. This class introduces young children to dance in a gentle and nurturing environment. We use familiar games and props to develop coordination, rhythmic awareness and imagination. Students will use memory and focus to learn a few classical ballet positions and terms. They will also begin to understand etiquette of the ballet classroom.

Ballet I - ages 5–6, 60 min.

For students with little or no dance experience, this class is a wonderful, gentle introduction to the world of ballet.  It will include and expand on the same lessons learned in Creative Movement. Students will work on coordination, focus and memory while using their imagination and having fun.

Ballet II - ages 7–9, 60 min.

It is recommended to have previous dance training for this class but not required. Students in Ballet II will use what they have learned in Creative Movement and Ballet I and expand on them greatly. They will work on the repetition and speed of what they have learned. Student will learn more classical ballet vocabulary and will start building the strength to go on pointe. They will spend more time at the barre and will learn across the floor and center combinations.

Ballet III - ages 10–12, 75 min.

Previous ballet training is highly recommended for this class but not required. Students will learn additional ballet steps and terms in this class. They will also increase their speed and repetition. Students will build the strength to go on pointe with pre-pointe exercises. They will gain strength, focus, and knowledge of ballet in this class.

Ballet IV with Beginning Pointe – ages 13–15, 90 min.

This class is only for students who have taken a full year of Ballet III or have previous training. Some students will be put on pointe based on previous training and current ability. Students will continuing learning ballet steps and terms with increased speed, and will begin working on pointe at the barre.

Ballet V with Advanced Pointe - ages 14–18, 90 min.

Previous ballet and pointe training is required for this class. This is the most advanced class and will include pointe work and classical ballet variations. In this class students will review everything they have learned. Combinations will become more complicated and more strength will be needed to complete the class. Students will finalize the steps and terms to complete their repertoire of classical ballet.

Ballet Funk with Advanced Pointe - ages 14–18, 90 min.

This class is for advanced students only, previous training required. A traditional advanced ballet class with pointe work set to fun and current music. A great time bringing ballet to today's youth!

Lyrical - ages 13-18, 60 min.

This class is only for students that are taking Ballet IV, V or have previous advanced dance training. Lyrical dance is a dance style that combines ballet, modern and jazz and is danced to popular music with vocals. The dancer will develop an emotional connection to music and will use fluid movement and expression to tell the story of the music.

Intro Adult Ballet - ages 16 & older, 60 min.

It's never too late to live your dream.  No previous dance training is required. This class offers an easy and highly enjoyable introduction to the basics of ballet.  Students will become familiar with all of the fundamentals of ballet in a low-pressure environment.  Whether you aspire to join the Joffrey or simply add the grace and poise of ballet to your dance vocabulary... you can do it, we can help!

Intro Hip Hop - ages 9-13, 60 min.

No previous dance training required. This is a high-energy class that uses the latest music together with movements influenced by some of today’s video choreographers. Each class begins with isolation, stretching and strengthening exercises and ends with a fun Hip Hop combination. Learn to dance like in the music videos!

With Cynthia Starosta

YogaKids is an innovative program that combines and teaches traditional yoga with new theories of multiple learning styles in a playful, engaging, and creative approach to children and their education.

YogaKids uses elements - such as anatomy, reading books, math, music, visual art, ecology, language, and relaxation - with poses to encourage learning and exercise as a springboard to a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
